Plum Creek's Front Porch Days 5/3/15 - Rockaroni & Cheese + Little Batman and Robin

Long time Front Porch Days supporters Rockaroni and Cheese played again. Little known fact.. you might see some similarities between 2 of the members of Rockaroni and Cheese and the internet sensations "Little Batman and Robin" (link).

In fact... Little Batman and Robin made an appearance at Front Porch Days and even filmed an episode (at the end of this post) called "Justice Is Its Own Reward" that has Corey Brill (Pete from AMC's Walking Dead) in it.

Rock The Porch - 1

Some Assembly Required
The Plum Creek Neighborhood of Kyle, Texas is currently hosting an initiative called Rock The Porch - link - where 15 rocking chairs have been distributed to local and area individuals and groups in order for them to put their artistic spin on them.

I was chosen as one of the artists. I'll incorporate much of what you've seen on here since day 1 in the design... photos of the people and places of the neighborhood and community.

I'll document my design process on here. So this is Photo 1.
Hope you enjoy the photos to come... and lets hope for a fantastic final product.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the other 14 chairs will look like.

Plum Creek Lake - Kyle, Texas

This is the dock at the Plum Creek Lake in the Plum Creek neighborhood in Kyle, Texas. Residents of the neighborhood are allowed to catch-and-release fish... and there's a jogging trail around the lake. You can also be like my family and I and hang on the dock and skip rocks.

Kyle is going to be busy on Monday... first, the Plum Creek Neighborhood will have their annual 4th of July Parade (this photo is from the 2008 parade) then... well... we're the only city in the immediate area that has NOT cancelled our fireworks show because of the drought... Austin cancelled, San Marcos Cancelled, Buda cancelled.

I have a feeling there will be a population boom in Kyle Monday evening.

Here's the info in case you're in the area:

Stopped into my new local coffee shop.
It's called The Java Cup.
I chatted it up with the owner, Bill Sinor, for a few minutes and snapped a few photos. I learned the coffee blends were designed by the owner himself.. his own special blends. Nice.

This shop is located in the Plum Creek Neighborhood of Kyle. There used to be a coffee shop here which closed about a year and a half ago... was hoping a new place would come in. He's still building it out (sounded like the entire building will eventually be open as a coffee shop/game room/ event area / live music venue) but the coffee shop area is totally ready.

Thought I'd continue the scarecrows... There were so many good ones. My favorite of these has got to be the first one.. Medusa (who looks  little bit like a rock star). These are all a part of the annual scarecrow making contest in the Plum Creek Neighborhood happened this last Saturday.

You can see them in person in Plum Creek at Negley Elementary.

This is Elvira and Destiny.. aka Ronald and the Hamburgler... at the Plum Creek Dog Fair today. (their humans run the Driftwood Kennels) It was just one of the awesome things going on in Plum Creek. I'll share more. The dog fair was awesome. Great booths, lots of four-legged friends... and really entertaining performers. Woot!

When I took the girls swimming the other day the Hays Swim Club was practicing (one of the pools in Plum Creek)... so I got a shot of Coach D. Scott Brown teaching the kids in the club how to properly dive into the water. Hopefully the girls will be old enough soon to join. I know they love the water.

Family Fun Abounds At Front Porch Days

Plum Creek’s Annual Free Family Festival

For the past 9 years, the neighborhood of Plum Creek (plumcreektx.com/) has thrown a party lovingly referred to as “Front Porch Days.” And this is one party you don’t have to bring anything except yourself and the desire to have a great family day.

On Sunday May 2, the public is invited to join the fun at Fergus Park (next to the Plum Creek Community Center and kids pool) from 11am to 4pm. There will be plenty to do with the family. The event is completely free, save for the washers and golf tournament. And you’re welcome to bring your own food, or get lunch from one of the many food vendors on site.

Those who have been to this celebration over the years know there is a plethora or activities. This year is no different. For the kiddos, Front Porch Days boasts bouncy-bounces, a petting zoo, paintball, pony rides, a 1k Fun Run, and a 12:30pm performance by the Emmy Award winning band The Biscuit Brothers followed by Rockaroni and Cheese, a fun interactive kids band.

For the adults, there will be a washers tournament, a golf tournament (on 5/1), a pie baking contest, and live music on two stages that include Front Porch Days Alumni and neighborhood resident Bruce Curtis Fallgren as well as area bands Aimless Gun (who will be playing the FOX morning show on Friday 4/30), Lucas Cook, Righteous Brisket, and The Dead Phonetics. The music will kick off at 11:00am with a performance by the Kyle United  Methodist Church praise band.

Front Porch Days is largely a volunteer effort with residents of the neighborhood doing the planning and event management with the blessing and support of the builders and Home Owner’s Association. Thousands of people attend each year and leave with a smile on their face.

Plum Creek is a 2,200-acre master-planned community located in Kyle. Visit http://www.frontporchdays.com for a full schedule of events.

Jesse The Kid...

Today was the community-wide garage sale in the Plum Creek neighborhood. I wandered a few houses and bought some cookies from the Girl Scouts down the street. Then I ran into some other neighbors... and with them was their son Jesse. He had just sweet-talked some other garage sale house into GIVING him this bangin' blue hat.

If you're in the Kyle area next weekend... come on by on Sunday. We're throwing a party. It's called Front Porch Days and we'll have music (nine bands including The Biscuit Brothers), kids games, a petting zoo, a washer's tourney.... and a lot more. Check out the Website at http://www.frontporchdays.com.

In December... these were inside homes in the Plum Creek neighborhood of Kyle. This past weekend the Landscape Committee bundled up the trees... and by now they are sunk into the neighborhood's lake in order to create fish habitats.

Yes... we're a little big odd in Plum Creek... call us what you will... but I think we have more fun than most neighborhoods. We've got a HUGE party coming up in May, great neighbors, and lots of things to keep us engaged.

Here's a story on Plum Creek from March 5 - http://www.statesman.com/homes/new-homes-guide/residents-benefit-from-smart-planning-in-plum-creek-321873.html

Actually... if you want to hear about the future development of Plum Creek... you should go to tonight's joint session of the Kyle Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council meeting at 6:30 at city hall. I hear Plum Creek will be the only thing on the agenda. Neat.

Have you ever been to a National Night Out? It's really a fun thing... get to know your neighbors... eat some good food... meet a few cops who AREN'T there to give you a ticket...

I hope Daily Photo people have pictures from their National Night Out party in the next few days....

To find out where National Night out is happening in your area... put your zip code in at: http://www.nationalnightout.org/nno/

This photo is one of the locations of the National Night Out party in the Plum Creek neighborhood in Kyle. It's my hood. We hosted parties for a few years at our house... but this year we're leaving it up to someone else.

I likely won't make any of the parties tonight... I have a good excuse though. Today my wife and I celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary. Here's a link to a PDF of our wedding "story" that ran in the Laredo Morning Times (where I grew up) - You can download it here..

Happy Tuesday
