Rock Hard @ Down South Railhouse

ROCK HARD @ Down South Railhouse 2/5/16
February 5th was my birthday. I went to Down South Railhouse for a great 80s hard rock cover band. They even dedicated a KISS song to me.
Awww....

Had a great time. DSR is a really fun place... and I've never seen a bad band there.. and it's free to enter for 21+.

2015 Concerts For A Cause - First Show

Down South Railhouse is the 2015 home of Concerts For A Cause

March 14 was the Grand Opening of Down South Railhouse AND the first show of the 2015 season of the Kyle, Texas soon-to-be non-profit, Concerts for a Cause.

Pictured below is Austin singer-songwriter D.C. Bloom playing during the event which raised over $500 for the cause of the month. The cause for the 1st show WAS Concerts For A Cause in order to afford to file the paperwork to become a non-profit.

Tardis in Kyle, Texas

I wonder Who this Tardis is for, Doctor?
This is probably my favorite lawn ornament in Kyle, Texas. A resident in town here has proudly displayed a Dr. Who-style TARDIS in their front lawn. I first saw it in October and thought it was a Halloween decoration... but it's February and it's still there... and I dig it.

From Wikipedia:
The TARDIS[nb 1][1] (/ˈtɑrdɪs/Time and Relative Dimension iSpace)[nb 2] is a time machine and spacecraft in the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who...
How awesome is this?

Look at the Star in the Sky

Gazebo... that's just fun to say.
I walked through City Square Park (it's on the grounds of the Old City Hall... and for those who don't know what that is.. it's the building in the "square" on Center Street as you come into Kyle) and stopped at the gazebo. Saw the stark blue sky (yes it was 80+ degrees yesterday) juxtaposed against the lone-star design of the gazebo. I thought it made for a neat photo. It almost looks like a painting... but it's a straight up iPhone photo.. unedited.

What do you think?

SWT Forever! (really)

In the floor at Premier Cuts in Kyle

I went to get myself a haircut at Premier Cuts in the HEB PLUS! shopping area and when I walked in... my Alma Mater's logo was sealed into the floor.

This is awesome for two reasons...
1. It's my Alma Mater's logo sealed into the floor of a business.
 2. SWT (Southwest Texas State University) changed their name to Texas State University - San Marcos in 2003 (then they dropped the "- San Marcos" last year) so to have the logo from MY time at the school is awesome to see.

Signed,
- Sean "Still a little bitter the name changed" Claes

Chickens, Booze and Bail Bonds

Great teaser in this month's "All Around Hays" which is the monthly magazine the local paper, the Hays Free Press, puts out.

I'd hoped I'd find all three in one story.... alas.. Chickens, booze and bail bonds were 3 separate ones.

If you'd like to read this magazine, it's online here - link

ACC - Kyle

Austin Community College - Kyle, Texas Campus

I drove by the ACC Kyle Campus and was impressed with the construction thus far. It's going to be a fantastic building... and hopefully my kiddos will both be able to go there after high school.

Incidentally... ACC Kyle will be said in acronym.. ACCK.
May I suggest Bill The Cat as the mascot?

Rock The Porch - 1

Some Assembly Required
The Plum Creek Neighborhood of Kyle, Texas is currently hosting an initiative called Rock The Porch - link - where 15 rocking chairs have been distributed to local and area individuals and groups in order for them to put their artistic spin on them.

I was chosen as one of the artists. I'll incorporate much of what you've seen on here since day 1 in the design... photos of the people and places of the neighborhood and community.

I'll document my design process on here. So this is Photo 1.
Hope you enjoy the photos to come... and lets hope for a fantastic final product.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the other 14 chairs will look like.

Plum Creek Lake - Kyle, Texas

This is the dock at the Plum Creek Lake in the Plum Creek neighborhood in Kyle, Texas. Residents of the neighborhood are allowed to catch-and-release fish... and there's a jogging trail around the lake. You can also be like my family and I and hang on the dock and skip rocks.

Bountiful Baskets!

Bountiful Baskets WIN!

Every two weeks, my wife and I buy from Bountiful Baskets in Kyle, Texas. For $15 you can get an assortment of veggies and fruit.

This is my photo of the stuff we got today. We spent more than $15 on this haul... because we added on artisan bread, granola, carrots and apples.

Totally worth it.
Look up Bountiful Baskets in your area - http://www.bountifulbaskets.org/

Bountiful Baskets - Kyle

Bountiful Baskets - Kyle by seanclaes
Bountiful Baskets - Kyle, a photo by seanclaes on Flickr.
Recently, Kyle became a distribution point for Bountiful Baskets (http://bountifulbaskets.org/). This is a photo I took of a few of the baskets on the morning of the last distribution.

Bountiful Baskets is a Food co-op that is run by the folks who purchase the items which are largely produce. The cost is  $15 for a Conventional Basket, and $25 for a 100% Certified Organic Basket. Plus.. they have some fantastic add ons for a little extra $$. The bread is amazing.

My family has bought a basket a few times and the fruits and veggies we get are pretty amazing.

If you live in America, check their Website to see if they distribute in your area. Tell 'em Kyle, Texas Daily Photo sent you. It won't mean anything to them.. but it'll make me feel good. :)

On March 24, 2013 Austin musician Bob Schneider played for a great crowd at the annual Hats off for Hospice at Texas Old Town. It was a great day with a lot of money raised for the cause + we even got to see a marriage proposal.

Big Red-a-Rita

This is a margarita with a Big Red tipped into it... My wife ordered it at Casa Garcia's recently.

It's not bad at all.. I prefer the Dos-A-Rita though (it's a Dos XX beer instead of the Big Red).
