The Haystack - Milt's Pit BBQ

Haystack!

This beautiful piece of edible joy is from Milt's Pit BBQ (208 W Center St, Kyle, Texas 78640). It's called a Haystack. It's a BBQ frito pie (yes, there are Fritos under that pile) and it's quite possibly my favorite thing at Milt's. They also have great burgers (Anita's Chophouse Burger will change your day for the better) and their BBQ is on point.

Check them out tomorrow (because they're closed on Monday)

King Cake, Peanut Butter Pie, and Red Velvet Cake

I'm really getting bad about posting here. I turned 40 on February 5, 2013.

My party was at Milt's Pit BBQ in Kyle on February 9.

My wife bought me a Red Velvet Cake (my favorite cake), my friend sent me an actual New Orleans Kings Cake, and a wonderful friend from my church brought me a peanut butter pie from Kyle's Texas Pie Company.

It was a good day.

I've talked about Milt's Pit BBQ pretty much ever since they opened... but now other people are talking about them too! Tonight Austin Radio Station, 98.1 KVET's David Anderson (and possibly Bob Cole) will be at Milt's about 7:30p to present Milt and Bunnie (the owners) with an award for coming in 4th place in their Central Texas BBQ Countdown.

They deserve it too. Great BBQ each and every time I go... and awesome folks too. They always treat me and my family well.

As a bonus, Ben Danaher will be performing from 7:30 - 10:30 (kitchen closes at 9 / BYOB).

Milt's Pit BBQ was rocking (well... acoustically anyway) as Kyle Lehnhoff and Chris Brown played a set of great americana, rock, and blues covers. I took the little girls and between songs Harper (age 3) started strumming Chris' guitar and he asked if she wanted to sing.. he handed her the mic and she rocked out "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to rave reviews by the dozens of folks in attendence.

I didn't catch THAT on video.. but I did get a couple of others. Here ya go:

Went to Milt's Pit BBQ to pick up dinner the other day. Still the best brisket in town.. and the kiddos LOVE the turkey.

One of the things I like about the place is this wall.. it's full of past-customer's signatures and comments. Awesome. I had to take a photo.

Jessica said "Great BBQ" on 4/15/08. I agree.

While looking them up to find the address I found a review of their place by a person named Dax:

"There was only one car out front, but it was already after 1pm, so we did not take that as a bad sign. The seating reminds me of the porch at the Saltlick. We sat in the covered porch under one of the fans. Even with the heat today, it was very comfortable. They have a signature wall that is filling up fast. They also have a sign requesting old license plates for them to display. It’s a great atmosphere for eating slow cooked BBQ.

The menu features a great selection at reasonable prices. My wife and I each ordered a bird’s nest. That’s a sandwich with sliced brisket and sausage. I also ordered a side of ranch beans. They have chopped brisket mixed in. It was all wonderful.

There were other great menu items as well. The family meal comes with a pound of brisket, 2 chicken quarters or 2 sausage links and 2 medium sides for less than $20. I am getting the Haystack during my next visit. That’s BBQ Frito Pie. "

Good write-up Dax... I think I actually know you... but I don't want to venture a guess of your last name (if it starts with a "M" leave me a comment)

Happy Wednesday.
