This is a band called The Georges. They play Rockabilly (as if you wouldn't be able to tell by their look). They're pretty good. If you're in the area, they play the Texas Music Theater in San Marcos this Friday. This shot is from the Kyle Market Days earlier this month.

This weekend was the Fajita Fiesta and BBQ Cookoff in Kyle. It was held in conjunction with the monthly Market Days. Long story short, it was awesome, and there was a BUNCH of great folks out there cooking and selling crafts and services.

My 6 year-old, Marlee, recently started enjoying photography... so I thought I'd have a little Kyle Daily Photo mission. Her and I, both armed with our trusty cameras set out to chronicle the event. I am uploading a couple of our shots here, but the rest are on my Flickr site in a set titled 04/02/11 - Kyle Lions Club Fajita Fiesta & BBQ Cook-Off, Kyle, Texas. Please, if you have time, give Marlee some positive feedback. She got some beautiful shots.

Yesterday I posted a few of Marlee's shots. Here are mine.
The full set (these plus more photos) are on my Flickr site.

Jeff and The Jumptones
Here's a shot of the Austin band Jeff and the Jumptones, the last musical performance of the 2010 Kyle Market Days on November 6, 2010. The next Market Days will be held on April 2, 2011 as is occurs the first Saturday of the month from April - November.

Thursday, August 12, 2010

My favorite part of Kyle Market Days is the live music. There's 2 performers each month..one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I caught the early performance on 8/7/10. This is a Hill Country bluegrass band by the name of Ranch Road 12.

This beautiful cross is from South Texas Mesquite. They do a beautiful job of inlaying turquoise in many of their pieces. I bought a jewelry box for my mom a few years ago from them. She loved it.

When I was a kid, pet rocks were amazingly cool. I was taken back to that when I came to the Kyle Market Days & Farmers Market last month. These "rock heads" were being sold at one of the vendor booths. Hopefully they'll be back this Saturday. Since this is the first Saturday of the month Market Days will be in full swing at the center of town at City Square Park (aka the place in front of the old City Hall at 101 S. Burleson). It's a really fun time to check out local and area artisans, buy some fresh veggies and listen to some good tunes.

Oh.. and if you're wondering.. I still have one of my rock friends from my childhood. It's a rock concert. My Grandma gave it to me.

Another of the vendors from Kyle Market Days was Deborah Thomas. She was selling some of her paintings and some jewelry. I was interested in her scrabble necklaces. Apparently game pieces are now viable as jewelry (see yesterday's domino pendants), but her paintings were beautiful as well.

Here's the scrabble necklaces:

And one of her original paintings.

Cooking up Kyle Burger
Originally uploaded by seanclaes
At the June Kyle Market Days I found The Texas Pie Company's mobile grilling unit out and cooking up some Kyle Burgers.

It's called a "Kyle Burger" because all of the ingredients from the meat to the toppings are locally grown.
You can read more about that in an April story of the Hays Free Press:
http://haysfreepress.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionID=47&ArticleID=36281&TM=28878.56

The next Kyle Market Days is this Saturday, July 4.
Who's playing?
9 a.m., Texas Blind Salamanders
noon, Pee Wee & The Way 'Tis

I always take the girls out there for a little fun, music, and business card collecting (my 5 year old collects business cards. Yes... I like that. Business cards are free...

Anyhow... I'm thinking I'm finally going to try one of these Kyle Burgers this week.

This was all the rage at Kyle Market Days... the new all-locally grown Kyle Burger. As seen described in the 4/1 Hays Free Press. The burger was dreamed up by local Texas Pie Company co-owner Julie Albertson.

Now that we're up to date...have a wonderful Tuesday.

Kevin McCollough and Jacob Hildebrand play in front of the "old train depot" in Kyle at Kyle Market Days on 10/4. I've been listening to his CD, "Heart Broke Inn," and it's a good one. I suggest checking it out online... or following the link to MySpace and see where he's playing soon:

Debbie Barbee had a nice collection of Dichrotic Glass Jewelry. Other than it being beautiful, I was amazed at the price. This beautiful piece was under $30. Find out more about her stuff by e-mailing swtelements@yahoo.com.

She's got a website also... but it looked like it wasn't live as of today.
