I've been immortalized! Well.. my photos have anyhow. Back in February, a representative from Wells Fargo bank messaged me that they were opening a store in Kyle and wondered if I could take some photos of landmarks... I ended up taking about 5-6 shots and sending them off.... never heard back... but I saw the bank was open and decided to see if they ever used my pictures.

I was surprised and excited to see they had.

This is my name on the "key" to the mural. The photo next to it is mine... you can see that photo on here back in February.

Technically... not Kyle


So, technically this isn't Kyle, Texas... it's country band The Derailers playing an in-store at Austin's Waterloo Records on Tuesday. They released their Under The Influence of Buck tribute CD to Buck Owens. Why is it posted here? Well... the top left of the photo is bassist Ed Adkins.... resident of Kyle, Texas.

This is photo #2 that I entered in the contest... hope I get in the show!

Oops.. I dropped the ball for a few days. To be honest, I was working hard the whole time... you see, besides having 2 wonderful daughters (ages 3 and 3 months) and a full-time job that is awesome, I am also an entertainment writer on the side. I'm actually the editor of Austin's INsite Magazine. I was on deadline. So.. that's my excuse.

OK.. two excuses. the other is, I was working on my entries into the San Marcos Naturescapes contest. It's a photo contest put on by the Hill Country Photography Club . I entered 8 photos. The new part of the competition granted me the ability to enter a photo from anywhere in Hays County (of which Kyle is part). So... I entered this as one of my two in that category:




It's a photo I took of my daughter, Marlee, as she played in wildflowers.
I'll post my second Hays County entry tomorrow.

For those who aren't in the "know" Claudia Taylor "Lady Bird" Johnson, wife of Lyndon B. Johnson - the 36th president of the United States. She passed away on 7/11/07. In her lifetime she was a large advocate of beautification of public lands and I'd venture to say her contributions are why I can take such mediocre photos of awesome wildflowers today.

If I knew how to fix cars, I'd probably own one of these. But, I don't so I'll just own the photo. I didn't get a great look at this one.. but it may be a Plymouth Hudson. Anyone else know?

On my way to work on Tuesday I was greeted with limited sight from the road. I thought since I was already hindered in my vision, I may as well take photos. I mean, since I wasn't talking on my cell phone I had a free hand.

By the lake? Nope... by Burleson Road.... on the frontage of IH-35 near exit 206 southbound.
(Actually that's the name of the Realtor... but you really have to read the small print (which looks like a line under "Lake" to know that)

My daughter is now 3 months old.
No, she's not THAT big of a baby... I just took it at a funky angle. She looked very cute in her baby bikini.
By the way.. that is my incredibly sexy wife holding the little flower.

Five Mile Dam in Kyle is a nice relaxing spot.

If you can see this... last year it was not so relaxing.

I've not heard from these guys.... but last contact I had was they would be using Kyle Texas Daily Photo shots for a mural on the inside of this bank.... which will be open soon...


Not soon enough!

I beat my co-worker at "Whack A Mole" at lunch (Mr. Gatti's) last week. I won a dolphin.
Here it is (and check out another of Kyle's water towers in the background).

This kind of typifies this area. This is the Performing Arts Center that opened a few years ago... right next to a working farm (see the round bales?).

If there's only two choices is still called a "fork" in the road... or a prong?

Either way... this is the onramp to IH-35 near exit 215. I was about to get on. I had my camera. You see what happened.

What's So Good About Rain?


Rain has brought fields and fields of yellow wildflowers to the area. Pretty. This week we'll call them "Nature's Fireworks"

Beautiful Downtown Kyle


Remember that "Pardon Our Progress" sign I took a photo of a few weeks back? Well... Welcome to the "progress." It's a pain in the rear to navigate... and downtown businesses have completely lost their parking for now... but let's hope that it's worth it. Beauty is painful sometimes...

My church, the Kyle United Methodist Church, is building a new fellowship hall. A few weeks ago there was a groundbreaking ceremony where they put this cross to mark where the new building will reside. It'll connect to the "old" church. It's going to be fantastic! I thought I'd share with a photo.

A Boatload of Books


I wandered into the Kyle Community Library last Wednesday just because I'd never been there. Pretty nice sized library for a town the size of Kyle. I walked out with library cards for me, my wife and 3 year old and a few books.

I'm not sure why they chose to put a big boat in the parking lot with a banner... but I guess it's more on point than a giant gorilla at an auto-mall.

Something cool I found was they have a pretty popular Summer Reading Program. Neat.

You can see to the extreme left of the shot a person standing in the background.... This is a HUGE shopping cart. It was over at the HEB Grand Opening. I think all 40,000 items will fit inside this.

On A Clear Day...


Let's take a little break from HEB shots for a day (Yes, I do have a few more). I've never lived in a city with so many water-towers. I am willing to bet there are more than 10. So... I call this photo "On A Clear Day You Can See From One Water Tower To The Next"

Since HEB Plus! opened Friday, I'm kinda hanging with the theme. This is part of the cool new feature that makes it a "Plus!" and not just a grocery store. This is a little sample cooking station. They made these nice fish tacos that my wife tried... (I'm not a fish person)

HEB Plus! Opened Today!


So... the new HEB Plus! opened today at 6:00a.m. My wife and I were invited to the opening Gala last night. It was fun... we brought the kids... good times. My daughter was so excited to see H E Buddy (the grocery-bag mascot of the store pictured here) but when she actually saw the bag (are bags men or women? Gender non-specific I guess) she was a little afraid. It IS a 6-foot bag.

Anyhow.. we entered into a drawing where the grand prize was a 37" Flat Panel TV. We didn't win that... My name was called, though, for 4th prize! I am going to be the proud owner (I'm picking it up in a few hours) of a Rattan Resin Wicker 4-piece Set consisting of a lovseat, table and 2 chairs. Whoop.

This may not look like much right now, but this will be the new Wells Fargo bank in town. Why does that excite me so? Well, the fine folks at Wells Fargo corporate e-mailed me a few months back after seeing my photos on Kyle Daily Photo and Flickr and asked me to take some shots of "historic" places in town for a mural to be painted on the wall of this building.

I sent them the stuff. I haven't heard anything... so I'm patiently waiting. Wow... I may have a mural thanks to Kyle Daily Photo.
Neat.

So... wondering if any other Daily Photo folks have gotten work published because of their posts here?

Forgive Our Furtherance


There's a lot planned for the downtown area of Kyle, Texas. While having a great lunch at Pizza Classics yesterday (They've got an awesome lunch buffet by the way) I chatted up the owner about the changes being made around the 'ol town square. Seems they're building median strips on the side streets and they'll be doing some beautification in the way of lampposts, benches, trees and the like over the next few months.

Four Way?


Get your mind out of the gutter... it's a repair shop at the corner of a 4-way stop.
Looks like a nice place to sit and wait for your car to get tune-up.

I just found out that the business strip across from this place will be torn down and a CVS Pharmacy is coming in.. I'm not sure how I feel about that. The strip has a gas station, 3 restaurants (only one of which I'll actually miss) and a video store.

I'll have to take photos of them for posterity sake...

I call this one "bee" mine.
