He came... he saw... WE HAD A BLAST!
Starting at 4:30p.m. yesterday, folks formed a line to meet Santa Claus.
Of course.. the couple of the hour (or evening as the case may be): Santa and Mrs. Claus!
He saw hundreds of kiddos and it looked like a lot of money was raised for Operation Blue Santa (http://www.bluesanta.org/).
I'll share some other shots in the next week. It was a blast.

KUMC New Life Center - #8 in the series
It's been almost 2 months since I last updated the progress on the building of the Kyle United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Since then I've learned that it's not actually going to be called a "fellowship hall." It will be the New Life Center. Anyhow... there's been a lot of progress since my last post in the series. Here's the link to #7 in the series.
So.. here's the new shots:

This is the entrance....
Texas Old Town is the Special Event Center in town. I've yet to attend a function there... but I hear it's a nice place. Perhaps someday I'll share photos from inside.
The "gate" is nice.

My Neighbor's Garden
Why do I need to grow flowers when 3 doors down my neighbor is making these beauties possible? My daughter and I like to go down the sidewalk and check them out. She's 3... I asked her to pick todays photo out and she chose this one because she "likes butterflies and pink."
Happy Sunday.

Happy Thanksgiving.. a day late.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I've got a 3 1/2 year old looking at me this morning saying "Daddy.. I want to go SHOPPING!"
Advertising apparently works... doesn't it?
Here's the sunset from Wednesday night.

This one is for the birds
This is a bird house I bought at a "Fair on the Square" in Kyle a few years ago.
IT'S ALMOST THANKSGIVING!!!
I'm totaly looking forward to beating my wife's mom, brothers, and sisters at Phase 10. If you haven't played it.. pick up a deck of cards at Wal Mart or Target... it'll be the best game you've ever bought for under $7.

What's Blue and HUGE and lots of fun?
This is the answer to the question "What is the most obnoxiously large thing you can buy at a garage sale for $35."
We're gonna have a lot of fun with this one. My 240lbs was able to slide down this monster....
Yea.
Happy Tuesday.

Holiday Fair! Fair is Fair
I haven't had much of a chance to go through my shots from the 11/10 Holiday Market At Plum Creek, but it was a great time. There were about 50-75 vendors, good food, and entertainment. I even won a silent auction item (2 pies from the Texas Pie Company)
Oddly, it rained just before we got there.. and just after we left, but it was beautiful weather while we were there.
Anyhow... it's almost a week later, so I'll post up some of the shots I took in the next few days... starting with the booths:
This booth had one of my favorite games from my childhood. I don't even know the name of it... it's the yellow cone with the red plunger at the back of this photo... anyone have a name?
This woman was selling rugs and other things made using this loom. She demonstrated.
This is a hand-painted wall hanging (about 5x7") that my neighbor did. She had a booth. I'd seen Ms. Ann's painting on birdhouses before, but had no clue she was fairy-tale artistic.

New BBQ on the Block
I believe the name of this place is "Firehouse BBQ" but I can't remember. I only recall the big green Godzilla that was on it's roof when it opened a few months ago.

Want to see Change?
This is the shopping center at 208 W Center St in September.
AND.. that same block last Friday.
This is happening right at the entrance to downtown Kyle.... on Center Street. Lots of construction is actually happening in town. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. It's going to rock.
This dirt pile is eventually going to be a CVS Pharmacy.

What A Burger
Brand New Whataburger! Brand New Whataburger! OK.. it may not be big news for most... but in Kyle... it's the fast-food burger alternative to Dairy Queen. Bonus? I got something in the mail that said this Saturday they're having their grand opening... which means free food and good stuff. I like free.

I wonder if they do men's hair inexpensively... I'm due for a haircut and my barber in San Marcos (about 5 miles south of Kyle) is starting to not be in my time budget. It's gonna hurt when I have to find another hair cutting establishment... Sam at Silva's Barber shop in San Marcos has been cutting my hair since 2001. I even wrote a humor column about him in 2004 - You can read it here which ran in an Austin publication...and it ran in Kyle's Free Press this year.
Anyhow... I don't know if Diana's is a good place for a haircut or not... I hope it is. I can only vouch for how good the restaurants were that used to be in that building. So... if it's any indication... it'll be good.
Happy Sunday.

Jeff Plankenhorn and Michael O'Connor
A few Fridays ago, Jeff Plankenhorn and Michael O'Connor played a show at The Lucky Cup Coffeehouse. I think it was the "season ender" for live music at The Cup... outdoors is going to get a little chilly for the next few months.

Not too good photo... really good restaurant
This is Los Vega Restaurante in Kyle. My favorite mexican restaurant in town. Actually... it's probably my favorite restaurant in town period. It's a fun, laid back, family owned restaurant that serves up some excellent food. We're not talking the "straight-from-the-freezer" variety. I've had their fajitas and loved them. My wife has had a few iterations of their enchiladas (the enchiladas verdes are excellent!) and enjoyed them as well.
Here's an added bonus... They've got a drive thru so you don't even have to get out of your car! I have been known to run to HEB to get something really quick...and stopping in at Los Vega, placing my order, running my errand and coming back to get my order to take home.
It's located in a kind-of odd spot... right off the Kyle Exit of I-35... if you blink you may miss it. It's pretty quick on your right when you get off the highway.

Being from Laredo, Texas (a border town with Mexico) I quite enjoy Spanglish
Nacionalizacion de "pick ups" y vehiculos - it just makes me smile and miss my hometown.
Speaking of hometown.. tomorrow... I'll post a shot of the Mexican Restaurant you HAVE TO visit when you come to Kyle. It's darned yummy.
That's right, I wrote "yummy."

How much is gas in your town?
I just like the way the sky is framing this gas station... thought I'd share.
We've got $2.95 for unleaded in Kyle, Texas...

#8 in the Series
I've been getting behind... with all those Kyle Fair photos and with Halloween, I've not updated my photo series (or had a chance to take an updated photo) for a few weeks. Here's the next in the series of the Kyle United Methodist Church's Fellowship Hall. Click here or the photo to go back to #7 in the series.
Of course if you drive through Kyle and pop a block past the square and to the north... you'll see a building with it's walls up now... I've really got to get over there.
Happy Friday.

Kyle Fair and Music Festival Part 5 - The Booths
This is the last post from October 21st Kyle Fair and Music Fest. I had a great time and saw a lot of really good folks.
Looking forward to next year!
Not sure what school are "The Cougars" but they were there....
Not a booth.... but it was a cool looking BBQ pit.
There were a plethora of jewelry booths.
Hot DAWG they looked like they had good brats (the sausage... not the people mind you).
The Kyle Quilters were selling raffle tickets for that beautiful quilt. I actually won their quilt last year!
Last but not least... The parking was a few bucks... and these guys (the collectors) were from the Shriners... raising money for scholarships.
