Tonight at Willie’s Grill & Icehouse Allison Pflaum (right corner of photo) from Hays Home Team - Keller Williams Realty and her team had their monthly happy hour. It’s always a great way to network and have great conversations with some of the local business owners and some cool residents of Kyle. 

Tonight I got to visit with a friend I’ve known from Kyle events for about the last 20 years, a retired professor from Texas State, a social worker for the local hospital, a purveyor of firewood and the manager of the local Nothing Bundt Cakes… 

Good times.

July 4 5k (7/15)

Kyle Anthem

 So… yesterday (7/15) I didn’t take a Kyle photo… I was at a teacher externship all day and didn’t get out… so I share a photo I took on July 4 at the Anthem Neighborhoods annual 5k of this individual who did the entire 3.1 miles holding an American flag. 

The Anthem 5k was at Kyle’s newest elementary school? Cullen Elementary… and the rain of July 4 held off in town until moments after the race was done. 

FYI, Kyle is south of Austin, Texas. We received a lot of rain, but were not directly affected by the flooding in Central Texas.

Three Tractors

 On the access road of IH-35 I saw three tractors mowing the grass on the side of the highway. They kind of looked like they were dancing.

Blessings Box - Kyle United Methodist Church

A few years ago, the young adults group from Kyle United Methodist Church installed a Blessings Box at the church (408 W. Lockhart) about 7-8 years ago.

Food insecurity is a big concern and there are many individuals and families in Kyle who are affected and many who would like to but don’t know to help. The blessings box is a place where ANYONE can come and pick up things to make sure they are fed tonight. Alternatively, folks can drop off/ donate items to help those in need. A lot of times it’s the same person at different times picking up and dropping off. 

It’s a community effort and people from all walks of life and some groups and clubs have donated to the box. In addition to the donations from my family, for the past 5 years I  have shopped once a month to donate to the box for Live Oak Lodge #304 (Kyle’s Masonic Lodge). If you’d like me to shop for you… please feel free to Venmo me and I’ll take care of it (@Sean-Claes).

This past year, a brand new box was built and installed at the same spot. This one is double the size of the original one. 

The box is open 24/7 and is filled with non-perishable food and toiletries. The box is completely filled AND emptied every day. Sometimes multiple times. I see it as such an amazing testament to Kyle’s citizens caring and loving their neighbors.

Was driving down Lehman Road today and decided to pop into the Kyle Parks and Recreation parking lot at Lake Kyle. Was thinking of taking a photo of the playground out there for this blog… but then I saw this!
This is a mural on the back of a giant piece of exercise equipment I’d not seen before. Turns out it’s brand new… and there’s going to be a ribbon cutting for it a week from Tuesday!

“The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to join them for the Fitness Court Ribbon Cutting at Lake Kyle Park, 700 Lehman Road, on Tuesday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m.”. From City of Kyle

Anyhow…the mural is a digital drawing produced as a wrap by Rachel L. Acevedo and depicts activities that can be done at Lake Kyle. 

The equipment itself is pretty great, too… it’s a “Fitness court” that is by The National Fitness Campaign and has seven different stations in order to help create a full workout. 
Pretty neat.

I swear I’ll ge back to pictures of Kyle… but for Friday July 11 I was cleaning out my garage and giving away a  plethora of items.

 So… it’s almost been a decade since I’ve posted on Kyle Daily Photo…

Where have I been?

Around. Actually I teach high school now… have for the last 9 years. 

A LOT has happened in Kyle, Texas over the last 9 years…. Lots of changes. A glow-up if you will. 

It’s much less the sleepy town it was when I began this endeavor…. But I’m going to try and start this up again… let’s see how it goes.

I haven’t stopped taking photos of Kyle… just got away from posting.

This is the flying pig hanging plant holder my kiddos got me for Fathers Day… so… I thought it appropriate to take the “When Pigs Fly” theme into the relaunch of this experiment. I hung this on my front porch yesterday (7/10)

Let’s see if Kyle, Texas Daily Photo can have a rebirth in 2025.

Hey Shorty! At Cross Plants and Produce

Cross Plants and Produce (link) has some great plants, fruits, veggies and meats. They also have Spot and Shorty... the resident mini-donkey and mini-horse.

They've got a great new shirt at the shop too that says "Watch Me Kick & Watch Me Nay Nay" that is pretty fantastic. :)
